Which image format should you use?
JPG is best for photographs — it produces small files but doesn’t support transparency. PNG is lossless and supports transparency, making it ideal for logos, icons and graphics with sharp edges or text. WebP is a modern format that combines the best of both: small file sizes like JPG plus transparency like PNG, which is why it’s recommended for the web.
When you convert a transparent PNG to JPG, the transparent areas are filled with white because JPG can’t store transparency — so convert to WebP instead if you need to keep a transparent background. This tool handles all of that automatically.
