Free GST Invoice Generator

Create a clean, print-ready GST invoice in your browser. Fill in your business and customer details, add your line items, and the tool works out the taxable value, splits the tax into CGST and SGST or IGST depending on the place of supply, rounds the total and writes the amount in words. Nothing is uploaded — your customer data and turnover never leave your device.

How to create a GST invoice

  1. Enter your business details — name, address, GSTIN and state. Click “Remember my business details” so you only do this once.
  2. Add the customer and set the place of supply. This is what decides CGST+SGST versus IGST.
  3. Add your items with HSN or SAC code, quantity, rate and GST rate. Use “Add another item” for more rows.
  4. Check the live preview on the right — it updates as you type.
  5. Click Print / Save as PDF and choose “Save as PDF” as the destination.

CGST, SGST and IGST — which one applies

GST is a destination-based tax, and the split depends on where the supply is going, not where you are registered. If the place of supply is in your own state, the transaction is intra-state and the tax is divided equally into CGST (central) and SGST (state). An 18% supply therefore appears as 9% CGST plus 9% SGST. If the place of supply is in a different state, it is an inter-state supply and the whole 18% is charged as a single IGST line instead. The total tax the customer pays is identical either way — only the split changes, because it determines which government receives the revenue. This tool compares your state with the place of supply and picks the correct treatment automatically.

What a tax invoice needs

Under the GST rules a tax invoice generally has to carry a consecutive invoice number, the date of issue, the supplier's name, address and GSTIN, the recipient's details, the HSN code for goods or SAC code for services, the taxable value, the rate and amount of tax under each head, the place of supply, and a signature or digital signature. This generator lays all of those out in a standard format. The invoice number must be unique and sequential within your financial year — that is one of the most common compliance mistakes, and it is worth keeping a simple register so numbers are never repeated or skipped.

Two practical notes. GST rates depend on how your goods or services are classified under HSN or SAC, and the notified rate for a category can change, so confirm the current rate that applies to what you sell rather than assuming. And the totals here are rounded to the nearest rupee, which is the normal convention, with any adjustment shown transparently as a round-off line.

This tool helps you lay out and print your own invoices. It is not tax advice, it does not file anything with the GST portal, and it does not verify GSTINs against government records — the check here confirms the 15-character format only. For registration, filing or classification questions, speak to a qualified chartered accountant.

Frequently asked questions

Is this GST invoice generator free?
Yes, completely free with no sign-up and no limit on how many invoices you create. It runs entirely in your browser, so there is nothing to install and no account to make.
When do I charge CGST and SGST instead of IGST?
Charge CGST and SGST when the place of supply is in the same state you are registered in. When the place of supply is in a different state, charge IGST instead at the full rate. The tool detects this from the state and place of supply you select and updates the invoice automatically.
Does my data get uploaded anywhere?
No. The invoice is built with JavaScript in your own browser and nothing is sent to a server. If you use the "Remember my business details" button, those details are stored only in your own browser's local storage on that device.
Can I download the invoice as a PDF?
Yes. Click Print / Save as PDF and choose "Save as PDF" as the destination in your browser's print dialogue. Because it prints real text rather than an image, the resulting PDF stays sharp and the text can be selected and searched.
Does it check whether a GSTIN is genuine?
It checks the 15-character format and warns you if the state code at the start does not match the state you selected, which catches most typing mistakes. It does not verify the number against government records, so confirm an unfamiliar GSTIN on the official GST portal.
Is an HSN or SAC code compulsory on the invoice?
HSN codes for goods and SAC codes for services are required on tax invoices, with the number of digits depending on your turnover. The field is provided for every line item so you can enter the code that applies to what you are selling.
