  5. Set how many people to split the cost between to see the per-person share.

How to calculate trip fuel cost and saving fuel tips

The maths is simple. First work out the litres you need: litres = distance ÷ mileage. Then multiply by the price: cost = litres × price per litre. For example, a 300 km trip in a car that does 15 km per litre needs 20 litres; at ₹100 per litre that is ₹2,000. A round trip doubles the distance, so it doubles both the litres and the cost. Splitting between people simply divides the total by the number of travellers.

To cut your fuel bill, keep your tyres properly inflated, avoid hard acceleration and braking, remove unnecessary weight from the boot, and service the engine on time. Driving at a steady speed in the right gear and switching off the engine at long stops all improve mileage, which directly lowers the cost of every trip you take.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the fuel cost of a trip?
Divide the trip distance by your vehicle’s mileage to get the litres needed, then multiply that by the fuel price per litre. This calculator does both steps for you the moment you type your numbers.
What does the round trip toggle do?
It doubles the distance so you pay for going and coming back. Turn it on for return journeys and leave it off for one-way trips.
How is the cost per person worked out?
The total fuel cost is divided by the number of people you enter in the split field. It is handy for carpools and road trips where everyone shares the bill.
Can I use a currency other than rupees?
Yes. The currency symbol defaults to the rupee but you can switch it to dollar, pound or euro from the dropdown next to the fuel price.
Is my trip data stored anywhere?
No. Everything is calculated locally in your browser and nothing is uploaded to any server, so your trip details stay private.
