Apple released the first developer beta of iOS 17.1 on September 27, 2023. The update includes a few new features and bug fixes, including:
- New Apple Music favorites list: The favorites list in Apple Music has been redesigned to make it easier to find and play your favorite songs and albums. You can now add songs and albums to your favorites list directly from the search results page.
- AirDrop over cellular data: You can now use AirDrop to send files to other users over cellular data, not just Wi-Fi. This is a great way to share files with friends and family even when you’re not connected to a Wi-Fi network.
- Live Text support for videos: Live Text now supports videos. This means that you can now copy and paste text from videos, just like you can from images.
- Stage Manager bug fixes: Apple has fixed a number of bugs in Stage Manager, its new multitasking feature for iPad. This includes bugs that caused apps to crash and bugs that prevented apps from being able to be resized and moved.
- Battery life improvements: Apple has made some battery life improvements in iOS 17.1. This means that you should be able to get more use out of your iPhone on a single charge.
- Other minor bug fixes and performance improvements: iOS 17.1 also includes a number of other minor bug fixes and performance improvements.
The iOS 17.1 developer beta is currently only available to registered developers. However, a public beta is expected to be released in the coming weeks.
If you are a registered developer, you can download the iOS 17.1 developer beta from the Apple Developer website. To install the beta, you will need to have a valid Apple Developer account and a compatible iPhone.
Please note that beta software is not always stable and may contain bugs. If you are not comfortable using beta software, you should wait for the final release of iOS 17.1.
How to install the iOS 17.1 developer beta:
- Make sure that you have a valid Apple Developer account.
- Back up your iPhone to iCloud or a computer.
- Go to the Apple Developer website and download the iOS 17.1 developer beta profile.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone and tap on Profile Downloaded.
- Tap on Install and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Once the beta profile is installed, go to Settings > General > Software Update.
- You should see the iOS 17.1 developer beta available. Tap on Download and Install.
Once the beta is installed, you can start using it on your iPhone. Please note that beta software is not always stable and may contain bugs. If you experience any problems, you can report them to Apple through the Apple Feedback Assistant app.
